Design Apéro: chapter three
15 creative talents. One beautiful location in the heart of Binz. A special guest with a local biz story about food and design. Lots of ideas and professional collaborations blossoming. These are the main traits of the latest Design Apéro: chapter three.
On November 4th a new group of professionals in the design and architecture industry gathered together for an energetic networking evening. This time a common thread was local business stories and sustainability. Even though Design Apéros do not having a specific topic to discuss by default, as the first guests confirm their participation, the theme emerges and guides my choice of later guests.

After special guests from Copenhagen, this time I went local and we all had the pleasure to hear the story of an independent chocolate brand called Garçoa. Franziska and Andreas, the founders, made an outstanding job in developing a small batch, sustainable production chain to produce bean-to-bar chocolate. No milk or additives, just cocoa beans and brown sugar. Not the usual Swiss chocolate, I’d say. This is a story of true passion for cocoa, born when Franziska was in Peru; she and Andreas traveled the world to select the best varieties of cocoa that are now transformed into bars and other chocolate products in their factory in Wollishofen.
This presentation was extremely inspiring: Franziska not only shared the beautiful aspects of her job, but also the difficulties and the many decisions that stand behind the development of a project. She and Andreas really thought out every single detail. For example, the packaging and the developing of the final form of the chocolate bars that are a little design masterpieces. Freelancers, small businesses and independent designers have a lot in common no matter the specific business branch they are involved in. We spent the rest of the evening talking about different aspects of our jobs.
